Detox is often associated with addiction to drugs or alcohol and the need to “detox” to get clean.

But, detoxing is not just for the addict. A good detox is essential to overall good health and well-being for everyone.

Detoxification (detox for short) is the physical or homeopathic removal of toxic substances from the body. These toxins pass through the liver.

According to the medical dictionary, detoxification is a widely used treatment in alternative medicine. The buildup of toxins in the body causes illness.

Removing toxins and avoiding new ones are essential to the healing process.

Toxins everywhere

Environmental exposure can come from chemical fumes, road construction, and smoke entering your car when your windows are down.

Second-hand cigarette smoke from a stranger nearby is a form of exposure.

Fumes from commonly used everyday products may be toxic, like paint products, highlighter pens, sprays, and unknown substances that burn while cooking.

Manufacturing companies release fumes, and we breathe other random fumes daily without realizing it.

Consumption of toxins may pass through processed foods, water, preservatives, and agricultural pesticides.

And we’re exposed to parasites and worms from pets, walking barefoot, and improper food preparation and cooking. We can make poor food choices and overuse medication.

All of these factors can hurt your body.

So what is detox?

Total body detox is a sure-fire way to cleanse the body of impurities and substances.

Typically, it involves cleansing the colon, kidneys, lungs, digestive, and respiratory systems – the whole body.

What are the positive effects of a detox?

Creating a healthier body to absorb nutrients more effectively is a positive result of doing a detox.

Another benefit is improving your mood and digestion and creating healthy bowel movements to relieve constipation and bloating.

On average, a person has 25 pounds of undigested food, mucus, bacteria, and dead cells in the colon, just waiting to be released.

These 25 pounds come from high-fat diets, artificially flavored foods, artificially colored foods, and foods loaded with preservatives.

The positive benefits of detoxing can include:

Other benefits include a clear mind and improved focus.

When the physical body becomes detoxified, the mind becomes clear to think and engage in mental activity better.

Another benefit of a detoxification process is that your organs will be cleaner.

When you consider the colon, kidneys, liver, and other organs, do the rigorous work day in and day out so you can live.

Doing a periodic detox can make all of your organs cleaner so they can function correctly.

Detoxing methods

There are several detox methods, from eating whole and unprocessed foods, to juices and teas to supplements and pharmaceuticals.

The key is finding a natural process that is easy to prepare and consume. And preferably, it includes a plan to improve your eating habits.
